I just wanted to write to give you an update on T, and to thank you for helping her through her recent anxiety after her school lockdown. She is doing AMAZING - no longer expresses fear going to school, or fixates on thoughts of violence in the world, and she has also done much, much better with anxiety at the orthodontist. I believe they recently had a practice lockdown, and I didn’t really hear much about it from T, which is great! T’s worry monster gets little to eat these days, which is also a very good sign!
It means so much to our family (and her) to have you and your team to help ‘correct course’ when lifes circumstances take T back to a place of unhealthy worrying.... We are so grateful to have access to such amazing support! (J.P Parent)
"My daughter has been attending the group sessions at CherringtonSawers for just over a year. These groups have enabled her to develop skills in turn taking, listening to others, seeing herself as part of a group and answering and asking questions. The crafts, activities and games with the other children have drastically improved her social skills with her peers, improved her self confidence, and given her the opportunity to develop friendships for the very first time! I can't say enough about the the staff and the support that we have received from this amazing centre!" (L.O - Parent)
"My son, who has Autism attended group ILS after many years of seeing an O.T, S.L.P, P.T. and a Psychologist.
He was making very slow gains prior to ILS. After ILS I noticed a huge gain in skills especially speech and eye contact.
I feel that many of the skills that we worked on prior to ILS but didn't achieve were achieved with ILS. Something about ILS made things "click" for him. I was worried that he would not wear the headphones or find the group stressful but he actually enjoyed the headphones and was very calm and happy during and after group. Others have also noted that he was making gains. I believe that ILS has really helped my son. My only regret is not having done it sooner." (M.S - Parent)
After visiting with numerous doctors, psychologists and speech language pathologists in order to help address the speech and behavioral problems facing our three year old son, we finally found someone willing to listen to our concerns in Paula Cherrington. Our son has been working with the team at Cherrington-Sawers for over a year now and the differences in both his speech and social anxiety/ behavior are tremendous. Using intensive speech language therapy, occupational therapy, ILS training and group therapy classes our little boy is able to communicate his needs better and is a happier, more social child. Our son is now attending a regular preschool program and is making new friends. We are eternally grateful to the team at Cherrington-Sawers for providing caring, consistent and effective support to both our son and to our family and for recognizing, as we did, the tremendous potential within our little boy. "Every time that you, Paula and Sonya talk about the changes you see in A., I get little chills and tears in my eyes, because I know that if you guys see changes in the short time that you’ve known her, she really is making progress. And, of course, my Mom pride kicks in and I have to tell you that I am SOOOOOOOOO proud of her. you have made such a difference in her life…I can’t thank you enough
....I wonder sometimes if you guys get so wrapped up in the day to day that you forget what a difference you make in the lives of the families you work with. I hope you all gets hugs and gratitude daily.
Amanda has been such a blessing in our lives.... Her positive influence on A goes way beyond the iLs. She is someone A enjoys and looks up to and I can't thank her enough (or you guys for bringing her into our lives)
Just know that I'm sending you all the biggest hug I have in my heart..." (M.M - Parent)
"..I would like to let you know how much I value Amanda's amazing skill and input. She has wonderful ways of teaching and sharing with our kids and teaching the families also. She is truly an invaluable resource and truly talented in her field. We are very blessed to have her working with A!" (L.J - Parent)
"I am so grateful that you are running the Group as it is meeting the needs of so many families I work with. It's comforting to me to know that I'm sending them to a great place where they can get the right support." (FSCD worker)
"When J and I started driving back to school, he asked me what "graduate" means. He did not really understand it was his last appointment until then and he got all teary-eyed. He just adores you so much. You are wonderful with children! Thanks for saying we could visit you. I reminded him of that and it cheered him up a lot.
Above all, thanks for all your hard work with J. We take J's speech for granted now, but when I think back, I realize what a long journey he has had. Thank-you for being so great at what you do." (N.P - Parent)
"The change in L is very impressive. After spending thousands of dollars over the years, we finally feel like we have found a successful program for him. It is too bad that we hadn't found you sooner! I also can't sing your staff high enough praises! I have told all of my teaching colleagues about how wonderful all of you are. Everyone who has worked with L at your clinic, have innately understood what he has needed each day and met his needs accordingly. As you know ... it is truly a gift to work with children so perfectly, it cannot be taught!" (C.T - Parent)
"I am thrilled with how my daughter is responding to camp. She as you know, was so reluctant to it, but after the first day said she was sad that it was over for the day. She mentioned several times she was looking forward to the next day at camp.
I think she really enjoys the small group that she has. She loves the various activities and has never once mentioned the headphones. She also has shared how much she likes learning more about her brain....I love it, and I'm sure this only adds to M's confidence as well. I was able to leave today for the duration of the camp and having her comfortable with me doing so was a nice step forward for her. I enjoy hearing about all the milestones she'll be making. Thank you very much to all of you, for being so welcoming." (J.F - Parent)
